GKN FAD SpA
Italian industry underwent extensive regeneration after World War II. This improvement of factories and the accompanying movement of labour from the countryside led to an Italian Industrial Revolution.
An Italian entrepreneur established FAD in these favourable conditions. It started producing agricultural implements for local and regional markets.
The following decades enabled the development of the business thanks to public investment incentives and also due to the wide range of unique quality products that FAD offered customers.
The recession of the 60s and 70s proved challenging but through strict control of manufacturing costs and reshaping of the business FAD continued to thrive. The business was healthy and able to acquire other companies such as Geplasmetal in Spain (which specialized in the supply of car trailer components and agricultural and industrial axles) and GSM in Italy (producing rubber suspension axles, tow bars for passenger car trailers, and industrial brake units). A branch of FAD was opened in the UK to distribute parts in the British and Irish markets.
In 2000 the FAD Group was aquired by GKN PLC.
